setup -- three chairs placed adjacently onstage numbered 1, 2, 3 from stage left to stage right.

*person A (age/race/gender unimportant) enters room*

*person A sits on chair 1*

*person A begins twiddling thumbs at a steady pace, looks at thumbs while twiddling*

*person B (age/race/gender unimportant) enters room*

*person B sits on chair 2*

*person B begins twiddling thumbs at a steady pace, looks at thumbs while twiddling*

(1 minute passes)

*person A and person B, in unison, stop twiddling thumbs*

*person A and person B, in unison, look at chair 3, which is empty*

*person A and person B, in unison, look back at thumbs and recommence twiddling*

*person C (age/race/gender unimportant) enters room; person C has on monster hands*

*person C sits on chair 3*

*person C begins twiddling thumbs with difficulty*

*person A and person B, in unison, look at chair 3, and person C*

*person C twiddles one or two more times, with noticeable struggle*

*person C falls off chair*

*person C lies on floor, inert*

*person A and person B, in unison, stop twiddling thumbs*

*person A and person B, in unison, look at person C on floor*

*person A and person B, in unison, get up and walk over to person C*

*person A picks up one of person C's arms, pulls off monster hand*

*person B picks up person C's other arm, pulls off other monster hand*

*person A and person B, in unison, drop person C's arms*

*person A and person B, in unison, return to their respective chairs and recommence thumb twiddling while looking at thumbs*

*person C sits up*

*person C looks at discarded monster hands and then at own hands*

*person C gets up and sits in chair 3*

*person C commences thumb twiddling while looking at thumbs*

*person A and person B, in unison, stop twiddling thumbs*

*person A and person B, in unison, look at person C*

*person C stops and then gets up*

*person C walks to monster hands*

*person C puts monster hands back on, one hand at a time*

*person C exits stage right*

*person A and person B, in unison, watch person C exit*

*person A and person B, in unison, recommence thumb twiddling*

*fade to black*
