Them's Fightin' Words

let's play a game. it's like a cage match, but it only involves quotes of famous/infamous people with similar names to each other. join us for today's edition of "you can quote me on that!"...

Today's Contenders

in corner A, we have Thomas R. Kelly (1893-1941): Quaker missionary, educator, speaker, writer and scholar.

in corner B, we have R. Kelly (1969*-): American urban R&B singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and sometimes rapper. Incidentally, still faces 14 counts of having sexual intercourse with a minor.

*HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA. i have the sense of humor of a 13-year-old boy.

And let's have it...the Fight

Thomas R. Kelly says, "The deepest need of men is not food and clothing and shelter, important as they are. It is God."

R. Kelly says, "I'm the Ali of today. I'm the Marvin Gaye of today. I'm the Bob Marley of today. I'm the Martin Luther King, or all the other greats that have come before us. And a lot of people are starting to realize that now."

commentator: THIS WAS A CLOSE ONE, KIDS! however, while r. kelly uses a lot of juicy name droppings in his words, and in fact, elevates himself to the same status as these names, thomas r. kelly pulled slightly ahead by using the hugest name dropping of all. the big G. as well as a pretty healthy dose of personal reverence.

WINNER: thomas r. kelly

prize: a year's supply of listerine breath strips to keep that tongue ever-fresh!
